DUE- Wednesday, February 20th for 1st, 5th, and 9th period
2/7/8 period- Due Thursday, February 21st

See assignment and break down calendar below

Work days in-class- February 1st, February 4th and February 5th
YOUR TASK: Your assignment is to create a travel brochure for either a plant cell or animal cell attraction. Examples include: Resort, Amusement Park, Island, Circus, Water Park, Zoo, Museum, Athletic Park, etc.

GRADING CRITERIA: Below are the requirements for this brochure to receive the grade you decide.
For example, if you wanted a B- you need to include all grade C terms and grade B- term along with the numbered requirements (Cell Travel Brochure Requirements).

Animal Cell
Grade
Plant Cell
Nucleus, Cytoplasm, Nuclear Membrane
C 75%
Nucleus, Cytoplasm, Nuclear Membrane
Cell Membrane
B- 80%
Cell Membrane
Vacuoles
B 85%
Vacuoles
Mitochondria
B + 88%
Mitochondria
Chromosomes
A - 92%
Chloroplasts
Golgi Apparatus (you need to research this term)
A 100%
Chromosomes

*** Points will be deducted from the above letter grade if you do not meet any of the below requirements.***

CELL TRAVEL BROCHURE REQUIREMENTS:
1. Brochure must fit on a standard size ( 8 1/2 X 11) or legal (8 1/2 X 14) sheet of colored paper that is folded into three sections.
2. Your information must be accurate.
3. The cell organelles (parts of the cell) must be clearly labeled (using numbers) and a key for your map must be developed. For example, ( #1) city hall = nucleus.
4. The structure/shape of the cell organelle is represented. (Use diagrams)
  • Map of attraction- include the cell organelle structures on the map
  • The overall shape of the cell can relate to your brochure- slice of pizza, Hershey Kiss, lollipop, etc.
5. The function of the organelle is described in 2-4 sentences. (What is its purpose in your attraction that connects to the function in a plant or animal cell?)
6. You may hand draw, use the computer, use cutouts from magazines, or photocopies from books in your brochure. Front cover- overview of attraction
7. You may be as creative, artistic, and humorous as you like.
8. Brochure must be neat and easy to read with minimal spelling errors.
9. You must use at least 1 website OR 1 book in your research. Write your bibliography on a separate sheet of paper or in your brochure.
For websites include:
The name of the website, Website address, Date you accessed the website
For books include:
Title, Author, Copyright date

IF you were not in class Tuesday, because of the chorus field trip- copy the following definitions down on your Cell Concept Term Sheet-

Cell Concept Term Sheet

Cell- smallest unit and function in a living organism
Cell Membrane- allows materials to enter and leave the cell (acts as the gate keeper)
Nucleus- cell structure that directs all the activities of the cell
Nuclear Membrane- surrounds the nucleus and controls movement of materials into and out of the nucleus
Cytoplasm- living fluid inside the cell membrane
Cell Wall- nonliving layer that surrounds the cell membrane of a plant cell
Chlorplasts- oval-shaped structures that contain(chlorophyll) organic material in green plants that absorbs sunlight for making food
Mitochondria- power house of the cell in the cytoplasm that releases energy from foo
Vacuole- large, round-sac in the cytoplasm of the cell that stores water, food, and other materials
Chromosomes- rod-shaped structures that directs all the activities of a cell and passes on the traits of a cell to new cells
Endoplasmic reticulum-maze of passage ways in which proteins and other materials are passed around in the cell
Ribosome-small circular structure in which proteins are made
Lysosome-round structure containing chemicals that break down large food particles into smaller ones
Chromatin-A complex of nucleic acids (DNA or RNA) and proteins, which condenses to form a chromosome during cell division.
Golgi bodies/complex/apparatus- packages molecules like proteins together
